Dr Purwiyano Hariyadi,  CFS*) is a Professor of Food Process Engineering at Department of Food Science and Technology, Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Bogor Agricultural University.  He was a Director of Southeast Asian Food and Agricultural Science and Technology (SEAFAST) Center of Bogor Agricultural University, INDONESIA ( from 2005 to 2015 and now serve as senior scientist at the Center.

He finished his BS in Food Technology from Bogor Agricultural University (in 1984); and continued his study in the USA to obtain his Master (1990) and PhD (1995) in Food Processing with minor in Chemical Engineering, from the Dept. of Food Science, University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA.

He is actively involved as a consultant for government agencies as well as food industries in Indonesia. Professionally, he is involved with many organizations, among are the Institute of Food Technologist (IFT, USA; and the Institute for Thermal Process Specialists (IFTPS; USA;, and the Indonesian Fortification Coalition (INDONESIA).

He was the president of the Indonesian Palm Oil Society (2005-2009) and the President of Indonesian Association of Food Technologist (IAFT) for two periods (2006-2008; and 2008-2010). Dr Hariyadi’s interest is in food processing and engineering; especially in the area of thermal processing (sterilization, pasteurization, food canning), irradiation and fats/oils processing and modification.

Since 1998, Dr Hariyadi has been actively involve as a member of expert panel for Indofood Riset Nugara- | IRN.(PANDUAN IRN 2020)

He has been appointed as a member of Indonesian National CODEX Committee since 2010 and been active in many CODEX activities.   In July 2017, Prof. Purwiyatno Hariyadi was elected the Vice-Chair od Codex ALimentarius Commission. In December 2012 he was elected to the Indonesian Academy of Sciences (AIPI | Akademi Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia), as a member of Commission of Engineering Sciences (Inauguration was done in April 27, 2013)

In April 2014, he received the ILSI Southeast Asian Region Recognition Award for his advisory role and valuable contribution to the ILSI SEA Region (ILSI-Recognition-Award-2014).


In May 2016, Prof Hariyadi was elected to the International Academy of Food Science and Technology (IAFoST  – IUFoST).

He has a passion in writing, and it is manifested in his role as the Chief Editor the monthly magazine FOODREVIEW Indonesia ( and Editorial Board – InfoSAWIT
